Lila Ritter
Lila J. Ritter, 80, of Carey, passed away at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2022, at Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo with family by her side.
Born Sept. 8, 1942, in Yakima, Wash., she was the daughter of Lyle and Goldie (Holman) Place. She married Clarence Perkins and they divorced. She later married Paul Ritter Sr. and they were divorced.
On her own and raising two sons, Lila went to work at RCA in Findlay in 1964 as an assembler. Lila and her coworkers turned off the lights for the last time in 2001 after 37 years. Also, during those 37 years, she earned an associate’s degree from Stautzenberger College. Needing something to do, she spent the next 15 years at Dollar General in Carey.
Lila loved her family with all her heart. Her greatest joy was watching her children and grandchildren participate in sports. A football fanatic, she enjoyed watching the Blue Devils, Buckeyes and Bengals. Lila also enjoyed hitting the casino for some slot action on occasion.
Lila was a member of Crawford United Methodist Church. She truly loved her church, all the members and serving God. She lived by the golden rule as evidenced by the way she treated people, always putting others needs before hers. Lila also had a great sense of humor and was very quick witted.
Lila will be missed by her sons, Larry (Donna) Ritter, Jimmy (Jackie) Perkins and Paul (Kathy) Ritter Jr., all of Carey; nine grandchildren, Joshua Ritter, Jessica Ritter, Nicole Ritter, Bobbi Perkins-Nelson, Jeremy Ritter, Brandon Ritter, Hailee Ritter, Gabbi Ritter and Dawsyn Ritter; and nine great-grandchildren.
With no family in the area, Lila became one of the “Three Amigos.” Judy McPheron and Mary Alice Abke were the other two-thirds of the clan. The trio were virtually inseparable. They made many memories together on family vacations and other escapades. Judy and Mary Alice were more like sisters than friends. Now the threesome can make more memories together by their lord and savior.
Preceding her in death were her parents and three siblings: Betty, Lyle Jr. and Wanda. Visitation will be 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 6, at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey and one hour (10-11 a.m.) prior to the services at the church on Monday. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 7, at Crawford United Methodist Church with the Rev. Cynthia Morrison officiating. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery in Carey. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Carey Athletic Boosters and sent to the funeral home.
