Charles Kentfield

Charles Robert Kentfield passed away Aug. 8, 2021, in Tumwater, Wash. He was 91 years young.
Charles was born May 15, 1930, to Charles A. and Florence R. Kentfield in Carey. A 36-year resident of Olympia, Wash., he also lived in Georgia, Belgium, Germany, England and California.
Charles graduated from Upper Sandusky High School in Upper Sandusky. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1951. Then in 1967, he joined the U.S. Army as a Chief Warrant Officer (CW4) in telecommunications. Throughout his military career, he served in England, Vietnam, Germany and SHAPE Belgium before retiring after 30 years of distinguished military service. He was a proud American patriot and appreciated his opportunity to serve. Once, while in the Army, he was referred to as “frank, easy and affable.”
While stationed with the Air Force in England, Charles was married to Joyce White of High Wycombe, England. He shared three children with his former spouse. In 1972, he met Susan Keto while stationed in Germany and they married in Basel, Switzerland. He remained happily married with his second wife for 47 years.
He was hardworking and service-oriented at home, in the community and his church. He was a member of the JBLM Catholic Church and served as CCD teacher, head usher and rosary maker for more than 30 years. He was a devoted Catholic servant to God and others.
Charles loved radio control airplanes, flying with the Sanderson Field Flyers in Shelton, Wash. He enjoyed both fishing and hunting. Charles loved to travel, especially annually to Hawaii and also by motorhome throughout the U.S. He was a lover of TV and movies, especially all the John Wayne movies.
He truly had a life well lived. He will always remain near us, still loved, still missed and dearly loved forever.
Charles is survived by his wife, Susan K. Kentfield; his sons, Charles David of Corona, Calif., and Charles R. Jr. of Olympia; his daughters, Kerri of Gilroy, Calif., and Kristyn of Riverside, Calif.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Dwight V.; and sister, Linda.
Services will be held Saturday, July 15, at 11 a.m. at the Original Shrine Church, Carey, with the Rev. Savio Manavala presiding. Interment will follow at Ritchie Cemetery near Crawford.
