Fred Brown

Fred William Brown, 98, of Mt. Blanchard, passed away at 7:43 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2024, at Bridge Hospice Care Center in Findlay.
Fred was born May 25, 1925, in Crawford Township, Wyandot County, to Karl H. and Hazel (Farthing) Brown. He married Dolly Loper Wetzel; she preceded him in death on Aug. 7, 2012.
Fred was a retired farmer and meat cutter. He served in the U.S. Army Transportation Corp. during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion Post 225 in Upper Sandusky and graduated from Carey High School in 1943. Fred was a former volunteer fireman for the Delaware Township Fire Department.
Surviving Fred are nieces, Carolyn (Don DeBouver) Fruth, Elaine (Alvin) Rettig, Alice (Ronald) Forgrave and Nancy (Robert) Pickett; as well as nephews, David (Jeanne) Beck, Daniel (Sue Thiel) Beck, John (Catherine Cornwell) Beck and Joseph (Wendy) Beck and special friend, Margaret Ann Myers.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Paul Brown, and sister, Ruth (Brown) Beck.
Visitation will be held at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey, on Friday, Feb. 2, from noon until 1 p.m. A funeral will be held at the funeral home at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Jim Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, Carey, with military honors provided by the Carey Honor Guard.
