Dolores Mathias

Dolores E. Mathias, 102, of Carey, passed away Monday, Feb. 19, 2024, at Wyandot County Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Upper Sandusky.
Dolores was born in Wyandot County on Dec. 1, 1921, to the late Leo and Frances (Haubert) Brodman. Dolores attended and graduated from Salem Township School in 1940.
Dolores married Norbert G. Mathias at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Frenchtown on June 1, 1946. Norbert passed away, on July 15, 1998.
During World War II, Dolores was proud to help her country and worked at the local Ford plant making spark plugs. After the war, Dolores found her true calling as a wife and mother and spent countless hours working on the family farm. Being a lifelong Catholic, Dolores previously attended St. Nicholas Church in Frenchtown and All Saints Church in New Riegel. She was a strong supporter of the Rosary Altar Society and taught religious education classes. In addition to her time spent volunteering with the church, Dolores was active with the Seneca County Farm Bureau and the American Legion Auxiliary #354 in New Riegel.
Dolores is survived by her children, Ruth Molyet of Findlay, Rita (Kenneth) Hohman of Tiffin, Theresa (Raymond) Chaney of Kansas, Mary (Robert) Shultz of Tiffin, Mark (Linda) Mathias of Carey, and Paul (Nancy) Mathias of New Riegel; 30 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; sister, Sister Donna Brodman O.P.; sister-in-law, Erma Brodman; and countless nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Dolores is preceded in death by a son-in-law, Donald Molyet; sisters, Sally Molyet, Rose Mathias, Mary Loverich, Martha Gillig and Isabelle Brodman; and brothers, Louis, Leonard, Leo “Bud,” Herman and Bernard Brodman.
Visitation will be held at Stombaugh-Batton & Snyder Funeral Home, Carey, on Thursday, Feb. 22, from 3-7 p.m. Parish prayers will be held at 6:45 p.m. An 11 a.m. mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Consolation with the Rev. Conrad Sutter, OFM Conv., presiding on Friday, Feb. 23. Visitation will be held one hour before mass in the Upper Basilica. Burial will follow at St. Nicholas Cemetery, Frenchtown.
