Ruby Frey

Ruby O. (Fishburn) Frey, 86, of Kirby, passed away surrounded by her family on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at 1:17 p.m.
She was born to Alvie and Sylvia (Ealey) Fishburn on Feb. 3, 1938, in Illiopolis Township, Sangamon County, Illinois.
Ruby met Jerome through her sister by writing him letters while he served in the Army. She married Jerome S. Frey Jr. on April 17, 1955. Jerome and Ruby started their life together by building a home and starting a family.
Ruby is survived by her children, Marvin (Tina) Frey, Upper Sandusky; George (Missy) Frey, Upper Sandusky; Bernadette (Danny) Newsome, Forest; Laura (Steve) Young, Forest; Rudy (Terri) Frey, Upper Sandusky; Erma (Doug) Parsell, Upper Sandusky; and Brenda Frey, Kirby; 21 grandchildren; and 56 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Vernon Frey, two grandchildren and 15 siblings.
Ruby was a homemaker and helped her husband on the family farm. She was the matriarchy and wore many hats. Ruby’s hobbies included playing cards, doing puzzles, reading, flower gardening and fishing. She was an exceptional cook and her food was delicious and bursting with flavor. Ruby was an artist and a master at making wire and pine cone trees. She was a talented piano player, playing by ear. Ruby collected butterflies and hummingbirds. She was one who loved music, especially Daniel O’Donnell and Harold Mitas. Ruby loved to travel and was able to visit 48 of the states. She was a caring, friendly and loving person and her warm hugs will be missed by all.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 12, from 4-7 p.m. at Bringman Clark Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky. A private funeral service will be held. Burial will take place at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Kirby.
