Martin Plott
Martin L. “Diz” Plott, 85, of Carey passed away Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2025, at Bridge Hospice Care Center surrounded by his loving family.
Martin was born on May 18, 1939, in Carey, to the late Dale and Mary (Ritter) Plott. He married the love of his life, Peggy J. Barnett, on June 1, 1963, at Grace United Methodist Church in Carey. They shared 54 wonderful years together until Peggy passed away on March 22, 2017.
Martin is survived by his two children, Lori (Dennis) Derr and Dean (Kate) Plott, both of Carey; six grandchildren, Samantha (Jason Beard) Derr, Angela (Patrick) Simons, Evan, Abby, Lexi and Emersyn Plott; five great-grandchildren, Scarlett and Kristian Gosche and Mackenzie, Audrey and Aiden Simons; a brother-in-law, Tom Kennedy; and a sister-in-law, Linda Plott. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Dolores Kennedy, Doris Frey, Tom Plott and Shelia Turnbell.
Martin attended Carey High School and left early to help his family when his father became ill. He worked at Whirpool in Findlay retiring after 30 years of service. Martin also helped with Carey Schools as a crossing guard. Martin enjoyed going around to garage sales and flea markets, while taking pride in keeping his home and landscape immaculate. Martin also enjoyed driving around Carey on his golf cart. Martin was a tremendous storyteller, jokester and was a friend to everyone. More importantly, Martin loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and being “paw paw” to many other children in Carey. He always made it a point to attend their activities and will be missed deeply by all that knew him.
Visitation for Martin will be on Saturday, March 1, from 11 a.m. until the time of his celebration of life service at 12:30 p.m. at Stombaugh-Batton & Snyder Funeral Home, Carey, with the Rev. Cynthia Morrison officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
