The Rev. Ray Moyers
The Rev. Ray D. Moyers, 81, of Carey, passed away Sunday, July 19, 2026, in the comfort of his own home surrounded by those he loved.
Ray was born on Nov. 12, 1944, in Boyd County, Ky., to the late Charlie and Pauline (Pennington) Moyers. He married the love of his life Elizabeth Faye Vaughn on July 7, 1966, and she survives in Carey. Also surviving is his daughters, Annie Moore and Misty (Chris) Loubert; grandchildren, Amanda Faye Moore, Jackie Moore, Brianna Pate and Kelsey Moyers; great-grandchildren, Levi, Harvey, Liberty, Raven, London, Jordyn, Carson, Messiah, Serenity, Zy’air and Baby Zharmonie on the way; and siblings, Jimmy Moyers, Mary Stewart and Barbara Moyers.
He was also preceded in death by his son-in-law, Ronald Moore; brothers, Billy, Charles and Johnny Moyers; and a sister, Bonnie England.
Ray dedicated many years of service to the Lowe’s Distribution Center in Findlay, retiring in 2003. Beyond his career, he faithfully answered God’s call to ministry, serving as pastor of the Church of God in Tiffin for 20 years. He later remained a devoted member of the Church of God in Port Clinton, where his faith continued to be the foundation of his life.
A compassionate servant to both his church and his community, Ray took his ministry to heart. He faithfully visited members of his congregation, offering comfort, encouragement and prayer, and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He found peace and joy in the outdoors, but nothing brought him greater happiness than time spent with his family. His grandchildren were the pride and joy of his life and his great-grandchildren held an especially treasured place in his heart. Whether sharing stories, offering guidance or simply enjoying their company, Ray’s greatest fulfillment came from the love he shared with his family.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 22, from 4-7 p.m. at Stombaugh-Batton & Snyder Funeral Home, Carey. Ray’s celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, July 23, at 1 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Wanda Sutherland officiating. Interment will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, Carey.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ray’s honor to the church.
