Melissa Hammond

Melissa Hammond, 57, passed away Thursday, May 28, 2026, at her home in Fredericktown.
She was born Nov. 30, 1968, to parents Gerald and Annetta Mathias.
She graduated from New Riegel High School in 1987 and Mount Vernon Nazarene University and was studying nursing at Central Ohio Technical College. Melissa is survived by three children, Brittney (Chris) Needles, Jayden Hammond and Alexa Hammond; siblings, Connie (Gene) Parish, Larry (Mary) Mathias, Danny (Laura) Mathias and Robert (Tammy) Mathias; and mother, Annetta (Gerald) Mathias.
Melissa was preceded in death by her father, Gerald Mathias, and her son, Jeremiah Hammond.
Melissa was a loving daughter, sister, mother and friend. She strived in higher education to improve herself and to help others, including recently returning to school for nursing. She loved traveling, especially to warm places with beaches and planning fun events to spend time with friends and family.
The family will receive friends at Snyder Funeral Homes, Mount Vernon, on Monday, June 8, from 4-8 p.m. The rosary will be recited at following the visitation.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Saint Vincent de Paul Church in Mount Vernon on Tuesday, June 9, at 10 a.m. with the Very Rev. Monsignor Mark J. Hammond, V.F., as the celebrant. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
