Daniel Tong
Daniel Tong, 71, of rural Carey, passed away at 7:58 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2019, at Fox Run Manor in Findlay, surrounded by his family.
Born March 1, 1948, in Upper Sandusky, he was the son of the late Raymond A. and Donna M. (Rinehart) Tong.
Surviving are three children, Tracey Tong of Findlay; Jeremy (Wendy) Tong of Carey; and Eric (Ruthie) Tong of Arcadia; eight grandchildren, Allie, E.J., Caleb, Carly, Jordyn, Ayden, Landen and Norah; and three siblings, Greg (Janet) Tong, Debra (Raleigh) Johnson and Julie (Ken) Lofton, all of Carey.
Daniel was a 1966 graduate of Vanlue High School. In his early years he farmed and worked at Atlas Crankshaft in Fostoria. He also ran his own excavating company for several years and finished his career at Kirby Sand and Gravel in Upper Sandusky. Daniel was a stockholder in the Indian Trail Caverns west of Carey and was instrumental in developing several trails.
He served on the Vanlue Fire Department for 30 years. He loved raising and showing quarter horses at the area fairs. He tinkered with welding and metal fabrication throughout his life.
The family will receive friends Sunday, Sept. 22, from 1-4 p.m. at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home, Carey. A memorial service for Daniel will follow at 4 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Mike Spann officiating. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date at Spring Grove Cemetery in Carey.
