Ray Barney

Ray Barney, 80, of Carey, passed away Sunday, Sept. 29, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Ray was born on Feb. 3, 1944, in Goodman, Mo., to the late Clarence and Ileene Barney. On Nov. 23, 1973, he married Mary Theresa Fox at the Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation in Carey. He is survived by his wife Mary of 50 years; children, Theresa, Kristy and Tim Barney; grandson, Jayden Barney; brother-in-law, Karl Fox; brother and sister-in-law, Brad and Rose Hess; nephews, Brian, Andy and A.J. Hess; and nieces, Janay and Janelle Hess.
He was also preceded in death by his niece, Kathy Hess.
Ray was employed at the Carey Implement Store, Snyder Lumber Co., and retired from Alvada Trucking in 2011. He was also on the Carey Fire Department for 28 years. Ray was the president of the Wyandot County Firemen’s Association and lifetime member of the Carey VFW.
A time to gather and celebrate Ray’s life will be on Thursday, Oct. 3, from 4-8 p.m. at Stombaugh-Batton & Snyder Funeral Home, Carey. Ray’s celebration of life service will be on Friday, Oct. 4, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Inurnment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ray’s honor to the Carey Fire Department, Carey High School Athletic Department or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
