Annabelle Dotson
Annabelle L. Dotson, 85, of Bucyrus and formerly of Carey, died peacefully Wednesday morning, June 7, 2023, at home under the care of Southern Care Hospice.
She was born July 25, 1937, in Detroit, Mich., to the late Leo F. and Ethel L. (Moore) Beagle. Her family moved to Carey in August of 1944 and Ann graduated from Carey High School in 1955. While in school, Ann and her classmate, Jack Dotson, began dating and they were married on June 3, 1956.
Ann will be remembered for her kind disposition, sweet smile and surviving spirit. She overcame many physical ailments and challenges over her lifetime and faced each of them with determination, often surprising her doctors. Jack’s work took them to Ohio, Florida, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Indiana before they returned to Ohio. Ann worked full time as well, usually in secretarial work with Lee County Hospital and Wyandot Memorial Hospital being especially memorable. She also drove bus for Wynford Schools.
Ann was a great athlete who passed her ability on to each of her children as they also participated in sports. She and Jack loved to golf and the Golf Channel was usually on her television. Ann was a gifted seamstress, talented at crafts and did a lot of canning. Her family especially loved her rhubarb pie, cherry cheesecake and family homemade pizza nights. The Dotsons liked to camp at the family cabin in the Allegheny Mountains and played cards with many friends over the years. Always an advocate for her family, Ann’s children knew they would have her blessing in all their pursuits. She was active in churches in each of the cities she lived and was currently a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bucyrus. She was once active in the Order of the Eastern Star and involved in the former Nevada Mother’s Club. Ann also had a soft spot for cats and many strays were fed on her porch.
Ann is survived by her husband of 67 years, Jack Dotson; children, Joseph (Tammy) Dotson, Julie Crall, David (Paula) Dotson and Michael Dotson (Angie Simonetti); grandchildren, Hope Dotson, Jeremy (Beth) Crall, Aaron (Ashley) Crall, Todd (Kenzie) Crall, Heather (Tyler) Green, Matt Dotson, Ellen (Tyler) Haldeman, Emily Dotson (Matt Dietrich), Trent (Lauren) Dotson, Taylor (Jacob) Rogers and Zachary Dotson; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and siblings, EvaDelle Traxler, Leo (Garnett) Beagle, Marvin (Linda) Beagle and Kathryn (Steve) Pieracini.
In addition to her parents, Ann was preceded in death by a grandson, Daniel Dotson, and brother-in-law, James Traxler.
The Dotson family will receive friends on Monday, June 12, from 5-8 p.m. at Wise Funeral Service in Bucyrus. A private graveside service will be held when she is laid to rest at Spring Grove Cemetery in Carey.
