Mary McGuire
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mary K. McGuire, 79, a cherished mother, grandmother and beloved friend, who left us peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2024.
Mary was born Nov. 12, 1944, in Shelby, to the late J. Newton and Dorothy (Jarvis) Schertzer. She was a beacon of love and light in the lives of all who knew her. Her greatest joy came from her family and her legacy will forever be woven into the hearts of her husband, children, grandchildren, family and countless friends. She was a devoted mother to her children and a doting grandmother to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought her boundless pride and happiness.
Mary’s zest for life was evident in her passions and pursuits. She had an insatiable love for traveling, which took her to places near and far, enriching her life with diverse experiences and cherished memories. Her adventures were always accompanied by her infectious enthusiasm and her ability to see beauty in every corner of the world.
Yet, perhaps the most enduring and delightful aspect of Mary’s life was her love for baking. Her kitchen was a haven of warmth and joy, where the sweet aroma of her creations filled the air. Each cake, cookie, pie and apple dumplings she baked was made with a generous portion of love and her recipes will be fondly remembered and cherished by all who had the pleasure of tasting them.
Mary will be greatly missed by her husband, Dennis McGuire, married Oct. 17,1965, and shared 58 wonderful years together; son, Michael (Anita) McGuire; grandchildren, Chelsea (Seth) Tschanen, Donovan (Courtney) McGuire and Savannah McGuire; great-grandchildren, Hayden Tschanen and Avery Tschanen; brother, Art (Clara) Schertzer; sisters-in-law, Margaret Schertzer and Mary Ann Schertzer; and numerous nieces and nephews, family members and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her son and daughter-in-law, Shawn McGuire and Linda McGuire Broadman; parents, J. Newton and Dorothy Schertzer; sister, Suzy Sandridge; and two brothers, Thomas Schertzer and Daniel Schertzer.
Mary’s kindness, generosity and unwavering love have left an indelible mark on those she leaves behind. She had a rare ability to make everyone feel special and loved and her memory will continue to inspire us to live with the same grace and compassion that she exemplified.
No services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Crawford Church, 11998 TH 29, Carey, OH 43316 or Compassionate Friends at compassionatefriends.org.
