Rose Hackworth
Rose “Rosie” Ellen Hackworth, 81, of Vanlue, met her Lord and Savior at 12:18 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2023, at Blanchard Valley Hospital in Findlay.
Born on May 21, 1942, in Johnson County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Kay and Alma (Baldwin) Spradlin. While attending Stony Ridge Church in May of 1960, Rosie met Doug Hackworth and six months later, Nov. 12, 1960, they were married. Doug preceded her in death on Sept. 28, 2023.
Rosie was all about her family and was considered the “family anchor.” She absolutely loved being a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed all aspects of gardening, all the way down to canning. For relaxation she would grab the fishing pole, do some sewing or work on a quilt.
A woman of faith, she was a member of Stony Ridge Church for over 65 years and was involved with many facets of the church. Rosie retired from Whirlpool Corporation in 2004 after 20 years of service.
Rosie will be missed by her children, Ted Douglas Hackworth and Rebecca Ellen (Kevin) Short; two grandchildren, Wesley (Leah) Short and Caleb (Amy) Short; two great-grandchildren, Everlee Rose and Sienna Joy Short; and two sisters, Opal Traxler and Lura Tipton.
Rosie was preceded in death by her parents and seven siblings, James Spradlin, Kerra Spradlin, Phillip Spradlin, Sylvia Dyer, Mae Salyer, Mary Kay Spradlin and Martha Gay Spradlin.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 3, at Stombaugh-Batton Funeral Home in Carey. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4, at Stony Ridge Church west of Carey with elders Pat Gilliland, A.J. Williamson, Tony Blair and Bob Ricketts officiating. Burial will follow at Zion Bloom Cemetery south of Vanlue.
Memorial contributions may be made to Stony Ridge Church or Armes Family Cancer Care Center and sent to the funeral home.
